The query behind every dashboard
Most product dashboards are the same four lines of SQL. Learn them once and you can check any number yourself.

Open any product dashboard and look at a chart. Weekly signups, orders by country, active users per plan. Behind almost every one of them sits the same shape of query: pick some rows, group them, count them, sort the result.
The four lines
select country, count(*) as orders
from orders
group by country
order by orders desc;
Change the table and the column and you have most of the charts your team looks at every Monday.
Why it’s worth knowing
When a number looks wrong, you can check it yourself instead of opening a ticket. When someone asks a new question, you can answer it before the meeting ends. That independence is the whole point of SQL for product teams.
Where it gets harder
Joins are the next step, and the one where most people get stuck. We give them a lesson of their own, with a small shop database you can break without consequences.
